AlgoAtWork Junior Engineers develop a Smart City concept for NEMISA DATA Science Hackathon
True to its culture of disruption and making history, AlgoAtWork Robotics entered Teenagers to compete with university and youth innovators from hubs across South Africa in the #NemisaDataHack2021.
Junior Coders and Engineers, Alex Dodd and Adelaide Hendrikse who are both 13 were the youngest ever participants of the annual hackathon by NEMISA, The National Electronic Media Institute of South Africa which was established as a non-profit institute for education in terms of the Companies Act (1973) and is listed as a schedule 3A public entity in terms of the Public Finance Management Act (1999).
NEMISA derives its mandate from the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies (DCDT) which was formed subsequent to the merger of the Department of Telecommunications and Postal Services (DTPS) and the Department of Communication.
This particular hackathon seeks to engage with government data to unlock insights that could inform policy decisions. The hackathon is a collaborative multi-stakeholder partnership between provincial governments, Universities, the youth, digital technology experts and mentors in partnership with data science enthusiasts.
These two brilliant teen Engineers worked on a Smart City Concept powered by Arduino throughout the entire weekend of the Hackathon - Mentored by Mampshika Tshega.
The Prototype has sound and light sensors across to detect light as well as sound.
